Project Management

The brief

Kingstel Express wanted a financial platform for customers in Nigeria and Ghana: multi-currency wallets, cross-border payments, bill payments and a virtual card, on web and mobile. There was an idea, but no product definition, architecture or team.

The challenge

A fintech product carries more risk than an ordinary app: money movement, currency conversion, fees, security, and an admin side the business can actually run. Each part needs the right specialist, and all of them have to fit together.

What I did

  • Defined the product: turned the business idea into clear requirements

  • Designed the architecture: Laravel backend, React web app, React Native mobile app

  • Contracted, hired and managed an 8-person team: product designer, three backend engineers, frontend engineer, mobile engineer, QA engineer and cybersecurity specialist

  • Ran delivery: sequencing, progress tracking and stakeholder updates, keeping every discipline aligned to one product

  • Built QA and security in from day one, not bolted on at the end

  • Deployed and handed over with full documentation

What the platform does

  • Multi-currency wallets in NGN, GHS and USD

  • Cross-border payments, mainly between Nigeria and Ghana

  • Bank transfers and West African bill payments

  • USD virtual card

  • USDT acceptance

  • A full admin system for running the business

Result

The platform launched and is live, with web and mobile applications, a secure backend and complete documentation.

What I learned

In fintech, most delivery risk sits between disciplines: design, backend, mobile and security. Someone has to own how the pieces fit, and bringing specialists in early is cheaper than fixing things late.
